Mistral AI develops open-weight and proprietary large language models including Mistral Large, Mistral Medium, Mixtral, Codestral and Magistral reasoning models. The company offers API access, Le Chat consumer assistant, Le Chat Enterprise for organizations, and Mistral Compute (an upcoming European Nvidia-powered AI infrastructure platform).

Founded in April 2023 in Paris by Arthur Mensch (former Google DeepMind researcher) and Timothée Lacroix and Guillaume Lample (both former Meta FAIR researchers who worked on LLaMA). The company was created to build sovereign European open-source AI models and became the highest-profile French AI startup, achieving a $14B valuation by September 2025.
