Cortex was founded in 2019 by Anish Dhar, Ganesh Datta and Nikhil Unni, three engineers who had felt the pain of microservice sprawl at Twilio, Uber and other large companies. The team went through Y Combinator (W20) and built the first commercial internal developer portal aimed at letting platform teams enforce service ownership, reliability and security standards. Cortex has since raised more than $190M from Sequoia, Tiger Global, IVP and Scale Venture Partners.
Cortex closed a $60M Series C led by Scale Venture Partners at a $470M post-money valuation.
