Labelbox was founded in 2018 by Manu Sharma, Brian Rieger, and Dan Rasmuson. Sharma had built computer vision systems at Planet Labs, where the bottleneck was labeling enormous volumes of satellite imagery; together with college friend Brian Rieger (then a data scientist at Boeing) and Dan Rasmuson, he started Labelbox to solve the data-labeling problem holding back applied AI.
